Rick Engineering Company’s Surveying, Mapping, and Photogrammetry
Divisions have been providing support for our many disciplines
for over 50 years. These divisions are involved in the civil engineering
process from beginning to end. There are upwards of 100 people
employed company-wide in these divisions with each office’s
Surveying and Mapping Department being managed by a Licensed Land
Surveyor.
The SURVEY DEPARTMENTS in each office are comprised
of multiple crews performing a wide variety of tasks. The field
crews are comprised of an experienced Party Chief with one or two
additional crewmembers trained to perform a multitude of tasks
from initial boundary location, aerial control and accuracy assessment
surveys, topographic surveys, to final site construction staking
tasks. The field crews employ state of the art survey equipment,
including GPS Real Time Kinematic Systems, as well as conventional
total station instruments with electronic data storage and handheld
data collection devices. All equipment is fully compatible with
our integrated office CADD and coordinate geometry hardware and
software.
The MAPPING DEPARTMENTS are comprised of professionals
providing the support for a combined total of 30 field crews, as
well as providing the research to determine boundaries, prepare
Land Development Maps, American Land Title Association (ALTA) Surveys,
Records of Survey, right-of-way surveys, legal descriptions and
plats, encumbrance maps, final construction surveying support,
and interface with a multitude of agencies to assure efficiency
in the land development process.

This 4,700-acre project is located in the northern portion
of the City of San Diego is
now near completion. Before construction could begin, Rick Engineering
Company performed topographic mapping and boundary surveys. Using
state-of-the-art GPS survey techniques, the firm provided aerial
mapping control, boundary and an ALTA Survey. Thereafter, construction
staking was done.
When San
Diegos premier shopping mall was remodeled, Rick Engineering
Company was contracted to provide utility locations, an ALTA Survey,
and construction staking services. Using serve-drive EDMs
and precise coordinate geometry, new footings and columns were
laid out both within and outside of existing buildings. Work was
performed during evenings so as not to disrupt the daytime operations
of the stores.
Since 1985, Rick Engineering Company
has provided construction
staking, aerial mapping, and subdivision mapping services for the
